AMI CERTIFIED SCHOOLS IN CANADA
The name "Montessori" is not protected by copyright or trademark. The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) has established a process to certify schools that meet the Essential Characteristics of AMI Environments in support of the full development of the human being. Canada has been certifying AMI schools since the 1980's.
AMI's quality assurance program in Canada is known as Montessori Quality Assurance (MQA). Schools participating in MQA in Canada are committed to striving for and following AMI principles and practices. Schools participate in consultation as a form of professional development and mentorship.
APPLIED: When a school first applies, it will be listed as APPLIED until a consultation visit is completed.
MEMBER SCHOOL: After the school has been visited by a Trained AMI Consultant, it appears as a MEMBER SCHOOL and maintains annual consultation to continue its path toward meeting all AMI criteria. New Schools are added throughout the school year.
AMI RECOGNIZED SCHOOLS: Schools identified as AMI Recognized Schools meet all of the Essential Characteristics of AMI Environments in support of the full development of the human being and maintain consultation a minimum of every three years. These schools are authorized to identify themselves as "AMI certified schools" and receive a Certificate of Recognition from AMI Head Office, The Netherlands.
